David Cook: Crowd welcomes 'Idol' star in great cheers
Hundreds of fans have gathered downtown on Friday to get a glimpse of "American Idol" contestant David Cook.
David Cook is a Blue Springs native who is amongst the three finalists for the popular TV show. He sang few songs for the crowd at downtown, who cheered wildly for him.
Gov. Matt Blunt has declared Friday “David Cook Day” for Missouri.
David Cook said, teasing the screaming crowd, "What are you guys doing here? Guys, thank you, seriously. I don't know what else to say. This is the coolest day of my life".
He gave a shout to his brother, Andrew, who was in the audience, and then broke into a couple of songs -- Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer" and a rocked-out version of Mariah Carey's "Always Be My Baby".
Afterwards, Cook walked through the crowd, hugging fans, posing for photos and signing autographs.
Later, David Cook planned to appear in a parade and to perform at a bigger, sold-out concert in Blue Springs.
