Neil Armstrong: First-man-to-walk-on-the-moon passes away at 82
Neil Armstrong, former US astronaut, has passed away on August 25.
Reuters reports that, earlier this month, Armstrong underwent a heart-bypass surgery because of blocked coronary arteries and passed away due to complications from the procedure.
Armstrong also celebrated his 82nd birthday on August 5.
The celebrated scientist became the first man to step on the moon's surface on July 20, 1969 while commanding the Apollo 11 craft, and said the famous words: "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind".
Armstrong trekked the moon's surface with fellow astronaut Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin for more than two hours.
NBC News reports, Armstrong married his wife Carol in 1994 and resided in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Neil Armstrong was awarded with the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Space Medal of Honor during his lifetime.
