'American Idol': Paying $17m to Mariah Carey to judge show?
Singer Mariah Carey will reportedly be paid a sum of $17 million (£11 million) to judge the next season of American Idol.
Earlier on July 23, it was announced that, the 'Hero' songstress had officially signed on to serve as a judge on the Fox reality series.
Carey's $17 million deal has allegedly made her the highest-paid judge on a singing competition show, according to The Wrap.
Carey steps into the vacancy left by former judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, who both announced their departures from the show earlier in the month.
The paycheck is apparently the same amount requested by Jennifer Lopez before her departure from the programme.
J Lo reportedly signed a $12 million contract for her time as judge.
In the coming weeks, an official announcement on the full American Idol judging panel is expected from Fox.
