Madonna: Scores US Billboard No.1 for eighth time with 'MDNA'
Madonna has claimed her eighth US number one album.
The singer's 12th studio set MDNA topped the US Billboard 200 chart with first week sales of 359,000 units.
It marks Madonna's fifth studio album to debut at number one and follows 2008's Hard Candy, which had first-week sales of 280,000, reports Billboard.
MDNA's opening week sales are the star's highest since 2000's Music, which debuted at number one with 420,000 copies shifted.
The performer's eighth US number one album places her behind Barbra Streisand in the record for most chart-topping albums by a female artist. Streisand holds the record with nine number ones in total.
Meanwhile, Madonna claimed her ninth UK number one LP with MDNA on Sunday (April 1), after the collection beat David Guetta's Nothing But The Beat to the top spot by 34,000 copies.
