Bob Dylan: To receive highest American civilian honor 'Medal of Freedom' from Barack Obama
Living legend Bob Dylan will be given the Presidential Medal of Freedom by US president Barack Obama.
The icon will receive the highest American civilian honor at the White House in the coming weeks.
Others like Astronaut John Glenn, novelist Toni Morrison, former secretary of state Madeleine Albright and Israeli president Shimon Peres will also be recognized by the president.
The president said of the upcoming recipients: "They've challenged us, they've inspired us and they've made the world a better place."
Among the former recipients of the honor are Frank Sinatra, BB King, Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald and Count Basie.
The singer-songwriter's last studio albums were 2009's Together Through Life and seasonal album Christmas in the Heart.
Currently, Dylan is recording a follow-up in Los Angeles which is said to have a Mexican influence. He will also headline the Hop Farm Festival in the UK this summer.
