Octavia Spencer: To play mother of victim in police-shooting movie 'Fruitvale'
Oscar-winning star Octavia Spencer is in talks to star in Fruitvale, a Forest Whitaker-produced drama about a 2009 police shooting.
In this film about Oscar Grant, a 22-year-old black man who was detained and shot by police in the Bay Area of San Francisco on New Year's Day 2009, Ryan Coogler will make his directing and writing debut.
This tragic incident gained national attention when bystanders captured the shooting, which took place at Fruitvale Station, on cell phones and cameras.
The talented star is in negotiations to play Grant's mother, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Michael B Jordan, known for roles in Chronicle and Friday Night Lights - is in talks to play Grant.
