Tom Hanks, Emma Thompson: Might star together in Mary Poppins biopic
Big star Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson are believed to be in talks to star in a movie about the making of Mary Poppins.
Reportedly, Hanks is in the running to play Walt Disney in the biopic, reportedly titled Saving Mr Banks, while Thompson may play Poppins author PL Travers.
The film will tell the story of how Walt Disney spent 14 years pursuing Australian writer Travers in order to get movie rights to the character, before making the musical picture starring Julie Andrews, according to Variety.
Apparently, Travers was unhappy with the animated sequences in the final version of the 1964 Mary Poppins film and later refused to sell any of her other works to Disney.
Based on a script by Kelly Marcel, John Lee Hancock is believed to be directing the project.
However, Disney studios have not commented, sources close to the project have confirmed that it will be going ahead.
Previously, Meryl Streep was rumoured to be in line for the part of Travers.
