The celluloid artist will portray the Baker's Wife in the musical, which was originated by Joanna Gleason in 1986.
Entertainment Weekly reports that, the play will run at the Delacorte Theatre in New York's Central Park from July 23 to August 25.
Joining Adams in the play are Jack Broderick (Narrator), Gideon Glick (Jack), Cooper Grodin (Rapunzel's Prince), Ivan Hernandez (Cinderella's Prince/Wolf), Tina Johnson (Granny), Josh Lamon (Steward), Jessie Mueller (Cinderella), Laura Shoop (Cinderella's Mother) and Tess Soltau (Rapunzel).
However, the coveted roles of the 'Witch and the Baker' have yet to be filled.
This drama follows the stories of several fairytale characters as their lives collide when a giant creates havoc in their land.
In January, Rob Marshall announced that, he is developing a movie version of Into the Woods for Disney.
The 'Superman: Man of Steel' actress has previously worked for many years in theatre and has played musical roles in films including Enchanted and The Muppets.
