Jay-Z: To be included at UK music festival
Glastonbury fest would stick to their decision of booking Jay-Z, the rap singer, for ‘headline’ performance. Glastonbury fest is one of the famous musical festivals of UK. Although Noel Gallagher, a famous band singer, had put blame on Jay-Z as a cause of low sales of tickets of the festival, the organizers did not deter from their decision. Although last year tickets were sold out within hours, this year tickets are yet to be sold.
While giving interview to the media , Gallagher commented "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," Gallagher said in an interview, an audio of which was posted to the British Broadcasting Corp.'s Web site Monday. "If you break it, people ain't gonna go. I'm sorry, but Jay-Z? ... No chance."
Gallagher’s band performed in the ‘headline act’ at the festival in 1995 and 2004.
In a mood of agitation, he even explained that the inclusion of Jay-Z’s rap music was against the tradition and culture of this fest which centered on practice of guitar music. "I'm not having hip-hop at Glastonbury. No way. No. It's wrong," adds Gallagher.
Rejecting all the accusations of Gallagher, Emily Eavis , the co-organizer of Glastonbury Festival gave her remark in defense of Jay-Z. It is her ardent belief that Jay is "absolutely the right act" for the festival. She even said that this thirty eight year old festival has a long history of incorporating rap music that includes Cypress Hill and the Roots.
She went to the extent of describing Gallagher’s comments on Jay-Z’s music as an act of “innate conservatism" that is prevalent in few parts of British society.
In an article that came out in a famous newspaper on Tuesday , Eavis commented "There is also an interesting undercurrent in the suggestion that a black, U.S. hip-hop artist shouldn't be playing in front of what many perceive to be a white, middle-class audience. I'm not sure what to call it, at least not in public, but this is something that causes me some disquiet”. |
