Russell Brand: Released from jail for $5,000 bail over iPhone throwing incident
Comedian Russell Brand has been released from jail.
The British actor was arrested earlier today (March 15) for allegedly throwing a paparazzi's iPhone through an office window. He was released on a bail bond of $5,000 (£3,200).
According to TMZ, Brand was booked on two counts of simple criminal damage to property - a misdemeanor offence - after turning himself in to the New Orleans Sheriff's Office.
The damage repairs are believed to have cost an estimated $240 (£153).
Brand had joked on Twitter that throwing the phone had been a "tribute" to late Apple creator Steve Jobs.
The comedian and actor wrote: "Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iPhone irreverently. What I did was a tribute to his memory."
The comedian was involved in a scuffle with a photographer at Los Angeles International Airport in 2010. Brand was arrested for battery, but the charge was eventually dropped.
