 Madonna: Gets honor
Madonna, the Material Girl, receives honor from Bay City that has earlier rejected to award her. It is the Bay City including Rochester Hills’ Detroit suburb where the diva has grown up.
The popular news media reported that Mayor Charles M. Brunner has written a letter of invitation to Madonna. The quoted words of the letter are “We have always been proud of your accomplishments but recently your induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame reminded us that we need to honor you with the highest honor that Bay City can offer”.
A popular news agency has written an email and also sought comment from the star’s publicist. According to it, though she was taken into consideration for the honor in the year 1985 later idea was being dropped down. Some people thought it to be too risky. The same source too has highlighted few facts regarding the City’s bestowal of honor to the singer. It is said that during late1980s, the city even declined to accept Italian artist’s sculpture of Madonna. It was done keeping in mind the popular belief that her popularity would pass off in due course of time.
However in recent time the scenario has completely changed. The president of the Bay Arts Council, Guy Greve has told about his desire of commissioning an artist for sculpting a Madonna’s statue.
"The local arts council would like to pay homage for her artistic contributions," he said. "I could see a sculpture of her in Bay City. One of Madonna's famous poses could be made into a sculpture." adds the elated president.
To top it all, Christopher J. Shannon, the City Commissioner also plans to release a tribute album of the star. He is also hopeful of successfully recruiting local musicians to cover hits like “Like a Virgin" and "Express Yourself." |
