 Remy Ma: Plans to wed in jail
Grammy-nominated rapper Remy Ma wishes to get married her fiance, fellow rapper Papoose, at the city's Rikers Island jail, if court judgement goes against her.
Remy Ma was convicted by the New York State Supreme Court last week, over an incident occurred outside a New York nightclub last year when she fired a shot at her friend, accusing her of stealing more than 3,000 dollars. She is awaiting for the verdict.
The 26 year old performer is being held without bail until her sentencing, set for April 23. She might be imprisoned for up to 25 years.
Remy Ma's lawyer Ivan Fisher said, "They are very much in love, They are very committed to each other, and they had intended to marry one way or another".
Stephen Morello, a spokesman of City Department of Correction said that about 200 weddings are performed each year at Rikers Island, which offers chaplains and chapels. Only two guests will be permitted, and the couple won't be allowed to wear rings with protruding gems.
Papoose's "Born To Win" was featured on the top-selling football video game "Madden NFL 06," and the music magazine Rolling Stone named him one of its "10 Artists to Watch" in 2006.
Remy Ma was nominated for a Grammy as a member of the Terror Squad for the 2004 hit "Lean Back." She has also recorded with rap stars Busta Rhymes and Eminem. |
