There's Something About Mary (1998)

Release Date : July 15, 1998
Rating : R
Distributor : 20th Century Fox
Duration : 1 hr. 58 min.

Overwiew :There sure is. A stalker love story, from the people who brought you 'Dumb and Dumber' and 'Kingpin.' Ted (Ben Stiller) is still in love with his high school prom date, Mary (Cameron Diaz), even though it's been years after the humiliating incident that cut their date short. Ted hires Pat, a private detective (Matt Dillon) to track her down, but Pat ends up falling in love with her too, starting a battle for Mary's heart that's rife with gross-out humor.

Starring :

Directors : Bobby Farrelly, Peter Farrelly

Producers : Michael Steinberg, Bradley Thomas, Charles B Wessler

www.ram.org - : The movie starts off with Ted Stroehmann (Ben Stiller) being asked out to the prom by Mary Jensen Matthews (Cameron Diaz). This leads to a disastrous (and hilarious) series of events which culminates in him being rushed to the hospital (''we've got a bleeder!''). Soon after, Mary leaves the little town of Cumberland, Rhode Island. Thirteen years later Ted is still convinced he is in love with her. He hires a private investigator, Pat Healy (Matt Dillon), to investigate her whereabouts. Unfortunately Pat gets too involved in his job (literally) and falls for Mary, while convincing Ted that Mary isn't worth pursuing. But before he can sink his teeth in, he is foiled by Tucker (Lee Evans) an ''architect'' friend of Mary's who himself has a crush on her.  more...
movie-reviews.colossus.net - : The Farrelly Brothers' first two films, Dumb and Dumber and Kingpin, were outrageous, uncouth, bawdy, and unapologetically lowbrow. Their third film, There's Something about Mary, is all of those things and one more: hilarious. I rarely chuckled during Dumb and Dumber or Kingpin (and laughed aloud less frequently) -- the so-called ''comedy'' in those films frequently missed the mark. Not so in There's Something about Mary, which occasionally had me convulsed with laughter. It's not enough for a motion picture to employ gross- out humor; it has to do it successfully (timing and reaction shots are important). That's one crucial difference between Chris Farley and Monty Python. And it's the key distinguishing factor that separates the Farrelly Brothers' first two films from this one.  more...
