www.channel4.com - : It's 1977, and Dublin teenager Frankie Griffin (Leto) has wasted his last year at school, so decides he might as well waste the summer as well, listening to Thin Lizzy, organizing beach parties, lusting after women and avoiding his actor father (Byrne) and his fiercely Protestant mother (a brilliant turn from O'Hara), who insists he is descended from the last king of Ireland. Co-scripted by Byrne, this coming-of-age story hardly breaks new ground, but it's smart and likeable enough, and there are some nice twists on the auld Paddy cliché. more...
