From there, the U.S. soldiers must struggle to regain their balance while enduring heavy gunfire.

  Critic Reviews  Grade
www.eonline.com - : He may have bitten the bullet (in more ways than one) with Pearl Harbor, but Josh Hartnett's second screen-tour of duty this year deserves a strong salute. Long on action and short on sap, this retelling of 1993's botched and bloody Battle of Mogadishu in Somalia is patriotic yet honest. Gladiator director Ridley Scott supplies suitable background for the historically challenged, includes enough character development among the tight-knit soldiers and throws in a few laughs to put you at ease before the sand hits the fan. But this isn't just a bunch of expensive aerial shots, intense explosions and gory war wounds (although all of those are impressive). Complex action-packed sequences work with the dialogue rather than around it. And supporting Hartnett, Tom Sizemore, Ewan McGregor and Ron Eldard do a first-rate job at snapping their respective roles to attention--warts and all. And the best part? No trumped-up love story! Someone here deserves a medal.  more...
