Overwiew :Directed by Rajiv Kapoor, PREM GRANTH is a violent, sweeping love story, very loosely based on Thomas Hardy's TESS OF THE D'URBERVILLES. Soman (Rishi Kapoor), the son of a local priest, is a principled young man of strong convictions who falls for a tragic young peasant woman named Kajari (the always mesmerizing Madhuri Dixit). They are kept apart, however, by fate and by the social injustices that have made Kajari's young life so painful. Her story inspires Soman to fight for freedom and equality--even against his own father--as he desperately strives to be reunited with his true love.
