  Critic Reviews  Grade
USA Today - Claudia Puig : ...perfectly embodies the concept of a summer blockbuster with its simple good-guys-vs.-bad-guys plot, cheeky humor and flawless special effects.   more...   B
Seattle Post-Intelligencer - Sean Axmaker : ...a wildly absurd, visceral fantasy and far more fun than it ought to be.   more...   B+
San Francisco Chronicle - Peter Hartlaub : Sure, the action is over the top, but the people in charge seem completely aware that every scene is hokey. It's a triumph of lowbrow consistency.   more...   B
ReelViews - James Berardinelli : ...essentially one long product placement.   more...   C-
New York Times - Manohla Dargis : ...a movie of epically assaultive noise and nonsense.   more...   C-
New York Post - Lou Lumenick : Compared to the labyrinthine plots of some of this summer's other blockbusters, this one is positively simple and easy to follow.   more...   C
Hollywood Reporter - Kirk Honeycutt : ...both smart and funny.   more...   A-
filmcritic.com - Sean O'Connell : ...takes too long to reach high gear.   more...   C
Entertainment Weekly - Owen Gleiberman : LaBeouf has the hefty job of single-handedly injecting the action with personality, and he brings it off, though without offering much variation on his nervous, hipster-squirt charm.   more...   B-
E! Online - N.V. Cooper : ...clunky, heartless and boring.   more...   C-
Chicago Tribune - Michael Phillips : In Bay's world, which is more about metal than people, every action sequence must be edited like a cinematic seizure and every extreme-telephoto image must be jammed headlong into the next.   more...   B-
Chicago Sun-Times - Roger Ebert : It's goofy fun with a lot of stuff that blows up real good, and it has the grace not only to realize how preposterous it is, but to make that into an asset.   more...   B
Boston Globe - Wesley Morris : ...a partly impressive, partly inane buck-banging toy of a movie.   more...   B-
Atlanta Journal-Constitution - Bob Longino : Great special effects + Shia LaBeouf - flimsy story = lotsa fun.   more...   B

Only the positive side of the film is good special effects. Otherwise, the film is pretty bad.
