In POLTERGEIST, for example, the cast is made up of relatively unknown performers, but that's all right because the real stars are producer Steven Spielberg (RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK), director Tobe Hooper (THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE), and their reputations for special effects and realistic violence. With a budget exceeding ten million dollars (the dollar obviously went further twenty years ago) Spielberg, Hooper, and company were able to create quite a spectacle. Additionally, the cast members managed to pull his or her own weight (with the exception of Zelda Rubinstein, who comes off as more annoying than mysterious). But the real stars of this film are the visual effects. They are simply phenomenal. more...
