www.empireonline.com - : Like buses, shoes and Geordie TV presenters, CG-critter movies often come in pairs. Two ant movies, two fish movies… and now we have two films about animals from the Central Park zoo going to Africa. Coming second must have helped Disney’s The Wild, though, as it’s marginally better than last year’s Madagascar, with a better (if less starry) cast voicing a set of characters who are more rounded, each granted their own moment of screen glory.  more...   [3/
movies.go.com - : Don't be surprised if you feel like déjà vu at the zoo in the animal epic, The Wild. Like the 2005 film, Madagascar, this script includes a cast of well-fed, pampered beasts who live behind bars in the middle of the city. But lounging in the lap of luxury with ready-made meals and adoring fans has left one teenaged cub longing for more excitement.  more...   [B]
www.reel.com - : t's great the way kids' movies hammer in those lessons about friendship and generosity by grouping together wildly disparate animals and insisting they're all best pals. But sometimes the combinations really push the credibility envelope. In Disney's new Madagascar—er, make that The Wild—for example, Samson (Kiefer Sutherland), a lion, is best buds with Benny (Jim Belushi), a squirrel. Come on, obviously the big kitty is one whipped feline, but no matter how tame, shouldn't he have made lunch of that rodent long ago? Or is that just wishful thinking, given that Belushi, even in a cartoon, is such an annoying actor? Or maybe it's just buddy-movie fatigue from the umpteenth animated film of the past several years to offer variations on the same general theme. It's impossible to watch The Wild and not think about The Lion King, Shark Tale, Finding Nemo, Ice Age, and so many more. If The Wild were a better movie, that wouldn't matter, but the humor is too mild and the sentimental plot too often mired in treacle.  more...   [2.
