www.washingtonpost.com - : ''Working Girl'' is a delectable reworking of the ultimate girl's myth, a corporate Cinderella story with shades of a self-made Pygmalion. This scrumptious romantic comedy with its blithe cast is as easy to watch as swirling ball gowns and dancing feet. But oh me, oh my, how much more demanding it is to be a fairy tale heroine these days. Happily-ever-aftering is hard as hell.  more...
www.qwipster.net - : It's the little touches that makes an ordinary story better, and Working Girl's director Mike Nichols (The Graduate) provides plenty of them. Subtle character touches, a few asides, and several moments of realistic drama goes a long way to turning an oft-told story into something entertaining and of substance. It also helps when you have credible and classy actors like Harrison Ford and Sigourney Weaver to elevate the affair, and Melanie Griffith, who exudes painful vulnerability in every frame, in what might be her finest performance as an actress.  more...  3.5/
rogerebert.suntimes.com - : The plot of ''Working Girl'' is put together like clockwork. It carries you along while you're watching it, but reconstruct it later and you'll see the craftsmanship. Kevin Wade's screenplay is sort of underhanded in the way it diverts us with laughs, and with a melodramatic subplot involving Griffith's former boyfriend, while all the time it's winding up for the suspenseful climax.  more...  4/4
