Overwiew :David (Jerry O'Connell) and his girlfriend, Sarah (Bridgette Wilson), have been together for five years, and now she's forcing him to make a decision--while she's away for two months, he has to either decide to marry her or face losing her. To help him make his decision, David calls on his lady-killing best pals (Ryan Reynolds and Bill Bellamy) to hit the town with him and check out the L.A. singles scene to see if he can find a better alternative to what he's already got! While out on the town, David meets a seductive mystery woman--at the same time that Sarah's dashing boss puts the moves on her in New York. Will these two stick together or head for greener pastures? www.apolloguide.com - : You have your macho juvenile sex comedy in which dumb guys treat women like walking tissues. Then you have your romantic comedy in which a man and a woman, magically ordered to be with one another, are amusingly/annoyingly kept apart by various circumstances. These two genres are generally mutually exclusive, created by and addressed to completely different audiences. But sometimes, a film attempts to combine both in one package. When this happens, the best we get is something like the Farrelly brothers’ There’s Something About Mary, an outrageous gross-out comedy doubling as a sweet love story. At the other end of the spectrum lies Buying the Cow, a movie that’s sappy and offensive at the same time. more...

www.qwipster.net - : While both films are somewhat lowbrow sex comedies, there is just no justice in this world that a horrible film like Tomcats could get a theatrical release, when a surprisingly funny take on the fear of getting married heads straight to video. Buying the Cow gets its rather unique name from the oft-heard bachelor motto, ''Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?'' It isn't the most original take on a romantic comedy, and for a while you might amuse yourself playing ''Name the Movie Where You've Seen That Before,'' starting right off the bat with the ''woman as cow'' metaphor from Someone Like You from the year before. However, despite the fact that there is a lack of freshness in the main plot, Buying the Cow did one thing which most other romantic comedies rarely do nowadays. It made me laugh. Repeatedly. more...

www.movie-gurus.com - : Pity the former child actor who grows up funny looking and struggles to maintain a career in the entertainment industry outside of reality shows. On the other hand, Jerry O’Connell, best known as the chubby kid from the classic ‘Stand by Me’ has little to blame for his career plight except for some really bad role choices. O’Connell has grown up buff and has no qualms about playing beefcake. I can imagine his agent telling him that he needs to show some skin so that people will stop thinking of him as a child actor or that squeaky clean teen from ‘Sliders.’ more...
