www.channel4.com - : Aldrich's best work was undoubtedly behind him when he took on this unpleasant dark comedy, which aims to highlight the worst aspects of the LAPD in sharply satirical fashion but misses the mark by a mile. Based on a novel by Wambaugh (who later disowned the film) The Choirboys has Durning and Gossett head the cast as Los Angeles cops who escape the hell of the job by indulging in some seriously dodgy after-hours behaviour. It's a dislikeble film; the characters are largely repulsive, the comedy lewd rather than clever, and the direction disappointingly workmanlike considering Aldrich's track record. more...
