www.eonline.com - : It's the year 3000, and man is an endangered species. Wait! Come back. This isn't Battlefield Earth. It's Titan A.E., a slick piece of sci-fi animation with an equally simplistic storyline. In the prologue, Earth is blown to smithereens (thus the ''A.E.''--''after Earth'') by some wicked blue energy forms called the Drej, and mankind is left riding large metal scrap heaps in deep space. Cale (Damon) holds the key to the Titan, a ship capable of birthing a new Earth, and he reluctantly embarks on a quest to find the vessel. Barrymore lends her vocals to Cale's sexy love interest. The alien concoctions are enthralling, and the soundtrack is MTV-hip, but this is no Heavy Metal. The film never clearly explains why the Drej have a Hitler complex, and it tries too hard to straddle the adult/child entertainment line. The result sets itself adrift.  more...  C+
