Directed by Theresa Connelly, this pleasant romp stars a sexually invigorated Claire Danes as a high school dropout who doesn't have a whole lot to look forward to--except, of course, for fooling around with Detroit cop Adam Trese. She obviously gets her sexually charged genes from mom Lena Olin, who's been having an affair behind working-stiff Gabriel Byrne's back. Olin is terrific as the mom who finds her true happiness watching over her five children, and Byrne's gruff exterior is unable to hide his soft, sensitive underside. When Danes is asked to lead the church's processional as the chosen virgin, the irony makes for terrific comic fodder. more...
