Clayburgh plays a lawyer working in Jerusalem; she still has her mysterious power, left over from An Unmarried Woman, to make every man she comes into contact with melt with undying passion. Her lovers, in rough order of appearance, are Gabriel Byrne as a Zionist district attorney, Jean Yanne as a Frenchman dripping with old-world wisdom, and Oded Kotler as a suspected Arab terrorist. If this 1983 French feature sounds schematic on paper, it's even more so on-screen, where Costa-Gavras hauls the plot devices into view with all the subtlety of the Queen Mary pulling into port.
