www.boxoffice.com - : ''Rio Bravo'' doesn't have a complicated storyline. Its tale of a sheriff and his deputies making their stand to prevent an army of outlaws from springing their jailed colleague is as old as the Arizona desert. What makes this telling of the tale so feverishly different is the team of talent behind it: producer/director Howard Hawks and stars John Wayne, Dean Martin and Ricky Nelson. Granted, the idea of pairing the wooden Wayne with a couple of singers whose acting skills were never highly regarded in the first place might not sound like the first, best step toward shaping a credible western. Yet, somehow it all works, thanks in no small part to the stabilizing effects of Walter Brennan and Angie Dickenson. more...
