Overwiew :In Don Bluth's animated fable AN AMERICAN TAIL, when a mouse family leaves Russia and emigrates to America, they believe the New World is a land without cats. The film, a heartfelt homage to the countless real stories of immigrants who came to the United States at the turn of the 20th century, follows the humorous and dramatic adventures of Fievel (Phillip Glasser), the family's innocent son who ends up arriving alone in New York only to have to stay clear of the cats he thought he'd never see again. AN AMERICAN TAIL is a beautifully rendered film, complete with catchy songs and cute characters, that is appropriate for the whole family.

Starring : Madeline Kahn, Phillip Glasser, Nehemiah Persoff, Christopher Plummer, Dom DeLuise

Directors : Don Bluth

Producers : David Kirschner, Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall

www.boxoffice.com - : When ''An American Tail'' was released in 1986, it represented a rare success for a non-Disney animated feature, confirming the stature of director and ex-Disney animator Don Bluth but also cementing the reputation of Steven Spielberg's Amblin', which produced the film for Universal. Drawing a line from that success to the burgeoning DreamWorks animation division, then, is fairly easy. So it's only proper that ''An American Tail'' finally be released on DVD. Unfortunately, the pressures of meeting certain specs for ''family-friendly'' DVD releases have taken their toll on the film which, along with its equally fine sequel ''An American Tail: Fievel Goes West,'' has been mastered full-frame. Fans will therefore have to pressure Universal to release widescreen versions of these films in much the same way they did with ''Babe.'' And there's no telling how long it may take for the studio to come to its senses and deliver.  more...
