goatdog.com - : That this film is not very good is something I remember quite clearly from the various times I have seen some or all of it in the years since its release. That it is sexist and racist is something I didn't understand before, since the film came out when I was all of eight years old and didn't know much about such things. That it is an utterly preposterous piece of Reagan-era bootstrapping propaganda was the real surprise for me. A lot of movies aren't, and ''Flashdance'' sure isn't. If this movie had spent just a little more effort getting to know the heroine of its story, and a little less time trying to rip off ''Saturday Night Fever,'' it might have been a much better film. more...
