www.channel4.com - : Russell's biopic of Rudolph Valentino, one of the silent era's greats, is not a patch on the numerous biographies with which he made his name in the 1970s. Told in flashback at Valentino's funeral, this episodic film manages to hold some interest at least as far as the depiction of his sexual exploits is concerned, but soon even Russell seems to lose interest in his subject. Occasionally it appears that he fell for the legend but was not very interested in the real man he discovered. Nureyev, in his first film, is charismatic as the lead, but the script does him few favours. more...
