Our anti-hero follows the wrong man (Ted Levine) who tuns out to be a bigamist with a wife (Annette O'Toole) in suburbia and another one (Kate Capshaw) on a ranch out west. When Berenger's girlfriend (Ann Magnuson) hires a detective (Elizabeth Perkins) to follow him, the two gumshoes fall for each other. Writer-director Alan Rudolph mixes motifs from many different genres into a cocktail about love. The performances in this fluid and dreamlike drama are all top-drawer. Given the complexity of the storyline and the cross-purposes of the characters, it's no wonder that Rudolph is able to reveal the comic, obsessive, delusional, sad, manipulative, and fulfilling sides of love. more...
