movies2.nytimes.com - : Some folks who were in grade school in the late 70's and early 80's may have fond memories of the original CBS series, which caught the tail end of the era's rednexploitation boom, but those people are probably perfectly happy to watch reruns on cable. The series's enduring contribution to the culture was lending the name of one of its secondary characters to cutoff denim shorts. Come to think of it, that may be the reason for this thoroughly pointless big-screen adaptation, which features the enigmatic Jessica Simpson as Daisy Duke, the sight of whose body will apparently turn any man in the state of Georgia into a drooling moron. more...

www.rollingstone.com - : There's a stink coming off the big-screen Dukes of Hazzard that even fans of the TV series (1979 to 1985) won't be able to shake out of their nostrils. With Bo Duke (Seann William Scott) and his Georgia cousin Luke Duke (Johnny Knoxville) behind the wheel of the General Lee, that orange-colored 1969 Dodge Charger still flies. Everything else lands with a thud. I have no problems with the jokes being lowbrow and moronic. Hey, it's still summer. But the film oozes the desperation of people sweating hard to create the illusion that if you yell ''yee-haw'' long enough you'll have a good time. It's not happening. more...

www.eonline.com - : They may very well have been ''just some good ol' boys, never meanin' no harm,'' but, boy, this big-screen version of the '70s TV show sure hurts real bad. It's as if Seann William Scott (he's Bo), Johnny Knoxville (who plays Luke and who took the gig just because he wanted to drive the General Lee) and the others are simply playing dress-up, doing bad accents and having a better time than you. Two dudes and a cool car isn't a lot to base a TV show (much less a movie) on, and it's no more substantial here. There's something about a road race and Boss Hogg (Burt Reynolds) looking to sneakily strip-mine Hazzard County. Then the Dukes save the day, like they always did. There are laughs here and there, but overall, it's about as funny as a typical episode of Hee Haw, meaning not very funny at all. Dang. more...
