Bob Geldof was born in County Dublin, Ireland on 5th October 1951.
His name at birth was Robert Frederick Xenon Geldof.
He was educated at Blackrock College near Dublin, a school whose Catholic ethos he disliked.
He started as a music journalist in Vancouver, Canada for the weekly Georgia Straight publication before coming to fame in the mid ‘70s as the leader of the Boomtown Rats.
In 1978 they had their first number 1 single, ‘Rat Trap’.
