Massey graduated from Morehouse College in 1958 with a B.S. in Mathematics and Physics, and also became a member of the Psi chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Massey went on to receive his PhD in Physics from Washington University in St. Louis in 1966.
On June 1, 1995, Massey was named the ninth president of Morehouse College. He served as president until the end of the 2006-2007 academic year. During his 10-year tenure, he spearheaded a $120 million fundraising campaign in support of his agenda to make Morehouse one of best liberal arts colleges in the nation.
