Daughter of James Daly and Hope Newell. Sister of Timothy Daly Won a Tony in 1990 for "Gypsy". Daughter Kathryne Dora Brown is an actress. Daughter Alisabeth is a potter. Appeared before a rally in Washington, D.C., on the coldest day in three years to denounce Bush's war on Iraq. Recently spoke at the March for Women's Lives Rally in Washington, D.C. Sister-in-law of Amy Van Nostrand. Appeared with actress-daughter Kathryne Dora Brown in The Wedding Dress (2001) (TV). She was escorted by her longtime friend, former "Cagney & Lacey" (1982) co-star John Karlen, to the 2003 Emmy Awards. After Ms. Daly won the Emmy (for her role as "Maxine" on "Judging Amy" (1999)), Mr. Karlen gave her a hug and kiss which was caught on camera during the TV broadcast. Ms. Daly then went on to pay a brief but warm tribute to Mr. Karlen in her acceptance speech. Won Broadway's 1990 Tony Award as Best Actress (Musical) for a revival of "Gypsy." Although low key compared to other acting families, The Dalys (Tyne, Timothy Daly, and father James Daly) are actually one of the most successful families in TV history with four shows lasting at least six seasons. Tyne Daly, who has won five Emmy Awards and been nominated for nine, is one of the industry's most acclaimed and respected actors. She received four Emmys as Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role in the long-running CBS series Cagney & Lacey. She received a fifth Emmy, for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, for her performance in Christy, also on CBS. Her extensive television credits also include starring roles in numerous movies including four Cagney & Lacey films, The Perfect Mother and Kids Like These, all on CBS, as well as Intimate Strangers, for which she received an Emmy nomination, The Entertainer, Larry and Bye Bye Birdie. She has also guest starred in many television series. Daly has appeared on Broadway in numerous productions including Gypsy, for which she won Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards, and Mystery School, for which she received a nomination from the Outer Critics Circle for Best Solo Performance. She also won a Drama-Logue Award for her performance in a Los Angeles production of Come Back, Little Sheba. Her feature film credits include John and Mary, Zoot Suit, The Enforcer, Telefon, The Aviator, Movers and Shakers and The Simian Line. Daly was born in Madison, Wisconsin, and now lives in Los Angeles. Her birthdate is February 21.
