Tracee Ellis Ross Detailed Biography -
|
|
Tracee Ellis Ross (born Tracee Joy Silberstein on October 29, 1972) is an American actress. The daughter of singer Diana Ross and Robert Ellis Silberstein, she is also the half-sister of actress Rhonda Ross Kendrick.
A tall, wide-eyed, curly-haired versatile performer comfortable working in many different capacities — Tracee graduated from Brown University and went onto succeed as a TV host, model, writer and producer. Tracee has worked extensively in the fashion industry, as a model and contributing editor to such publications as Mirabella and New York. Her greatest success has been her acting career.
Tracee made her big screen debut in 1996 playing a Jewish/African-American woman in the independent feature film Far Harbor. While the characters background was similar to her own, she received positive reviews for her portrayal. The following year she debuted as host of The Dish, a Lifetime TV magazine series keeping tabs on popular culture.
In 1998, Tracee starred as a former high school track star who remained silent about having being abused at the hands of a coach in the NBC movie-for-TV movie Race Again Fear: A Moment of Truth Movie. She followed it up with another role in an independent feature film, Sue. In 2000, she landed her first major studio role in Diane Keaton's Hanging Up. The same year, she proved her knack for comedy as a regular performer in the MTV series The Lyricist Lounge Show, a hip-hop variety series mixing music, dramatic sketches and comedic skits.
