Tim Williams (born November 5, 1979 in Providence, Rhode Island) is a singer/songwriter currently based in Brooklyn, NY. He has released two LPs, two EPs and several 7" singles on Dovecote Records.
Biography
Tim Williams spent the early part of his childhood in several places. After his birth in Providence, Williams' family moved to Wooster, Ohio and then Columbus, Ohio. While in Columbus, Williams began his musical path learning to play drums, and teaching himself to play guitar. He also began writing and recording on a four track tape recorder.
After graduating from Findlay University in 2002 Williams moved to Boston, MA to focus more intently on writing and performing. While in Boston, Williams released the self produced EPs "Songs For The Commute" and "The Refrain".
After one year in Boston, Williams moved to New York. Williams immediately began writing and recording while staying at the Hotel Chelsea. These sessions turned into his two subsequent albums, "8/18 Chelsea Sessions" and "Tales of Digression" which would soon after become the first two releases on the Dovecote Records label.
In addition to touring New England and the Midwest, the release of "Tales of Digression" brought Williams to the UK to play small clubs and venues. Shortly thereafter he met London-based producer Dave Lynch during a showcase at the CMJ festival in New York. Lynch offered to record Williams' next record if he ever found himself in the UK again. In November, 2005 Williams moved in with with friends in Eastbourne, England and began writing and recording. He also continued to play small clubs and venues opening for musicians from and friends of the Izumi Records label (Liam Finn, Duke Special, The Late Greats, and Ian Archer). Dovecote released the resulting work as Williams' Merchant Heart EP in 2006 and then "When Work Is Done" in 2007.
The release of "When Work Is Done" marked Williams first release with national exposure. He embarked on multiple tours making stops at South By Southwest, CMJ, and theSundance Film Festival. His video for "Novel" won MTV's weekly video contest The Freshman.
Williams is currently completing the second video in support for "When Work Is Done" and preparing to tour again in the fall of 2008.
