Stuart Margolin (born January 31, 1940 in Davenport, Iowa) is an American film and television actor and director. He is best known for his Emmy Award-winning role on the television show The Rockford Files, playing Jim Rockford's (James Garner) shifty friend and former cellmate Evelyn "Angel" Martin.
Margolin appeared in episodes of the television series M.A.S.H., The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Rhoda, Love, American Style, and "Magnum P.I.". His brother Arnold Margolin was the executive producer of the Love, American Style series. He is sometimes erroneously identified as the brother of actress Janet Margolin.
Margolin appeared in Kelly's Heroes (1970) and Death Wish (1974).
Margolin has been directing TV shows since the early 1970s, including episodes of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Magnum P.I., Bret Maverick, Quantum Leap, and Northern Exposure. He also released an album in 1980 entitled And the Angel Sings. He and his wife, Pat, live on Salt Spring Island, near Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, and has been appearing in several Canadian television series produced by Doug McLeod.
Margolin, who is also known as Salt Spring Slim, has also authored several songs for and with long time friend and singer-songwriter Jerry Riopelle that have appeared on Riopelle's albums since 1967.
