Sophie Okonedo (born August 2, 1969 in London, England) is an Academy Award-nominated actress, born to a caucasian Jewish mother and a Nigerian father. Her father left the family a few years after her birth, and Okonedo was raised in poverty by her single mother.
She appeared in Scream of the Shalka — a webcast based on the BBC television series Doctor Who as Alison, a companion of the Doctor.
She was nominated for an Academy Award (Oscar) in the category of best supporting actress in 2004 for her role in Hotel Rwanda.
