 Siobhan Donaghy Detailed Biography -

Siobhán Donaghy (born 14 June 1984 in London, England), is a female singer songwriter. Until September 2001, she was a member of English pop group, the Sugababes, after which she was replaced by Heidi Range. After her departure from the Sugababes, Donaghy released five solo singles and two albums. She still lives in Eastcote, Middlesex, with her family, which includes her sisters Bevin and Roisin.

Donaghy and her fellow band-mates Mutya Buena and Keisha Buchanan had been following a heavy touring schedule for over a year with Donaghy gradually becoming more and more unhappy with her position in the band. Feeling that the other girls and their managers were trying to force her into a direction that she didn't like, Donaghy was finding it all too much to handle. According to Siobhán herself through messages sent to MySpace users, she left the band because she never got along with Keisha, even calling her a bully. She became deeply depressed and could no longer be a part of the band.

"I just wanted to get out and do my own thing", Siobhán told on Loose Women in April.

In an interview with The London Paper in April 16th Siobhán said "It's difficult to leave a band and then make sort of a solo career. I left for a very good reason and I always stood by it."

Donaghy is still in touch with her former band-mate Mutya Buena. "I speak to Mutya. I mean we're not friends. We chat every once in a while. I'll be very pleased to see her." Siobhán is no longer speaking with Keisha Buchanan. The interwiever asked 'What's Keisha's problem with you?' Siobhán replied "I never knew. That's why I left. I never knew what her problem was with me."

"I think we were just very young. I mean we met when I was thirteen. I just think yeah, we probably didn't get on the best. But I think, lots of people met people at school around that time and probably fall out. Don't stay the best of friends forever, but it's not that much big deal now", Donaghy told on Channel 5 News in April 10th.

Overloaded: The Singles Collection is a greatest hits compilation album from the Sugababes that released on 13 November 2006. Contrary to initial reports that vocals from departed Sugababes Mutya Buena and Siobhán Donaghy were going to be re-recorded by Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah, all the original vocals were kept for the compilation.

In March 2003 Donaghy released her first single as a solo artist. "Nothing But Song" was released as a 7" vinyl single only and was relatively unknown. In June 2003 her first commercial solo single was released. "Overrated"co-written with Cameron McVey, entered the Official UK Singles Chart at #19. Following up|"Overrated", the single "Twist Of Fate" was released in September 2003 and charted at #52. Two weeks later saw the release of her debut album Revolution in Me.

Donaghy's debut album was released on London Records on 29 September 2003 in the UK. It was a flop, with its debut chart position at #117, citing 'lack of promotion' as an excuse. Lending a hand to Donaghy on Revolution in Me were father-son producers and writers Cameron and Marlon Roudette from Mattafix. The Sugababes, All Saints and Neneh Cherry are some of the acts Cameron McVey has worked with in the past. Each of the 12 tracks on the album was co-written by Donaghy with McVey, Preetesh Hirji, Matt Kent, and others. The title Revolution in Me is said to reflect her decision to go her separate way, leaving the Sugababes. Several of the tracks on the album have titles which do not appear in the lyrics.

Donaghy parted with London Records in a mutual decision with the company. After recording a second album with no record label it was rumoured that Donaghy was in talks with Parlophone, part of the EMI group. These rumours have been confirmed by Donaghy herself on her fan site. On her official MySpace page, Donaghy previewed the title track from the album, Ghosts.

Ghosts and the song "Don't Give It Up" was released in February 2007 as a 12" promotional 2-track single. Don't Give It Up, also previewed on her MySpace page, will be the first commercial single off the album with a full release on April 16 2007. The single will be available digitally a week prior, from April 9. Promotion for the single started in February 2007 with the music video having been shot in Morocco. The video for the single has been available on Youtube since January 25, 2007 .

In its first week of release, on downloads alone, the single Don't Give It Up reached a respectable #72, then, upon release of the physical single, went to #45.

The album Ghosts is expected to be released on June 25, after the release of the second single So You Say.

On April 9, 2007, Siobhán appeared on UK television show Loose Women and performed "Don't Give It Up".

Since 2003, Donaghy has appeared as a backing vocalist on the Mattafix album Signs of a Struggle, as well as singing on some tracks with Morcheeba.

Don't Give It Up is the first single of the album. A person that I was working with on this record was suffering from an addiction problems while we were making this record. It's probably the first song I wrote where I've been influenced because of his behaviour. And I wanted to write about it and it was first song I wrote where it was me trying to understand where he was coming from. I was sort of trying to courage him to get better, Siobhán told in an interview with Bebo.

She talks about her ex-boyfriend in So You Say. "Who was my first love and we went out together for three years. It's sort of me feeling sorry for myself. I wanted to try and make it as simple as possible. Because it's quite universal thing, it's something that most people go through. It's almost childlike in its simplicity", she also told in an interview with Bebo.

Donaghy admitted she had some kind of a depression in Channel 5 News. She said "Yeah, it kinda runs in my family and yeah for a few years I was quite depressed. But life is good now. I think just getting rid of my teenage years and now being in my twenties .." The interwiever interrupted her, so she couldn't finish her sentence.

Since leaving the band she thinks she has more freedom. "I do have a lot more freedom on my own. I've become a bit of a control freak and perfectionist. I really love what I do", Donaghy told then.
