Shekhar Kapur was born in 1945 at Lahore. Previously, Lahore was in India before independece. Shekhar Kapur is a famous film director. He is also a model, actor, producer and TV host. His basic schooling was done at the Modern School, New Delhi. Shekhar Kapur wanted to pursue a career in show business, he studied business in order to please his parents. Emigrating to Great Britain, he spent several years working as an accountant and management consultant before he capitulated and answered the siren call of 'Bollywood'. After returning to Mumbai, he embarked on a career as a print model and performer. Then he started acting on big screen and he became successful. Abandoning acting, Kapur started film direction with "Masoom" in 1983. After then he directed many hit films. Shekhar Kapur first came to the notice of American audiences in 1998, when he directed the Academy Award winning hit Elizabeth, based on the life of Elizabeth I of England. His work on the film earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Director, in the Motion Picture category. He is nephew of veteran Indian director Vijay Anand. He was married to singer and actress Suchitra Krishnamurthy and they divorced in February 2007. In 2006 Shekhar Kapur had formed Virgin Comics and Virgin Animation an entertainment company to create new stories and characters for a global audience. The Company was founded with Richard Branson and his Virgin Group, author Deepak Chopra and entrepreneurs Sharad Devarajan, Suresh Seetharaman and Gotham Chopra.
