Stza lived in San Francisco and attended his first punk show (a Citizen Fish show) at 924 Gilman Street afterword he ran away from home by train hopping to the west coast. In 1990 Sturgeon and a friend of his Alec Baillie formed No Commercial Value, which later evolved into Choking Victim and then again into Leftöver Crack. Although many members of these bands have come and gone, Sturgeon remained a constant figure, writing the vast majority of the lyrics and music and becoming the bands' self-appointed spokesperson. Stza played live in Choking Victim, the original incarnation of Leftöver Crack. Sturgeon is also associated with the band Morning Glory through Leftover Crack member Ezra Kire.
In 2005 he played solo (doing acoustic shows) and in a new "Crack Rock Steady Seven" featuring members of The Infested in Europe. 2006 saw him in Mexico city forming yet another regional Crack Rocksteady Seven, the CRS7mx featuring members of Niño Zombi. Fall of 2006 he returned to the United States and toured with Leftöver Crack, their tour with Citizen Fish was dubbed Cracktoberfest 2006. Most recently Stza has been involved in the creation of yet another punk/ska band, this time with members of Casa de Chihuahua, The Slackers, and The Degenerics (Nico Ramirez, Ara Babajian and Frank P. respectively) called "Star Fucking Hipsters".
Sturgeon, along with other members of Leftöver Crack, resides at 155 Avenue C, better known as C-Squat.
On September 6, 2008, Sturgeon was arrested after harassing a group of police officers by throwing an entire box of donuts at them—while a crowd chanted "Free fuckin' speech!"—and subsequently pointing his guitar at them as if it were a gun, while yelling "This machine kills cops!". The arrest followed a performance of a few of Choking Victim's and Leftöver Crack's most anti-police songs, performed in front of the police. This performance was a political protest to the NYPD's sudden "noise control" on the 20th annual Police Riot anniversary rally/concert at Tompkins Square Park, Which has had no decibal level restrictions anytime before or at any other performance there. Immediately after his arrest, fans proceeded to verbally harass police officers and pound on their vehicles demanding his release while screaming "Freedom of speech is dead! You killed it!" among other sentiments. NYPD officers who hate sturg started beating and tasering some unrelenting fans. The entire incident was filmed and posted on YouTube, but the videos have since been taken down.
