Scott Alan Stapp (born Anthony Scott Flippen on August 8, 1973 in Orlando, Florida, USA) is a singer and songwriter, and a former member of the band Creed. He is known for his claims to have strong Christian beliefs. He attended Lee College (now known as Lee University) in Cleveland, Tennessee, where he was expelled for marijuana usage. He then attended the Florida State University, where Creed was formed. Stapp cites The Doors, particularly Jim Morrison, as one of his principle musical influences, and performed with the surviving members of the band for a televised concert in 1999, as well as the Stoned Immaculate tribute album. Scott Stapp on his debut solo album The Great Divide He has announced a partnership with NASCAR that will see tracks from his solo album, The Great Divide, used in spots for the sport's upcoming Chase for the Championship. The alliance culminated with Stapp performing the national anthem at the Ford 400 race in Homestead, Florida. He was recently involved in an incident in Baltimore, Maryland where a fight took place between him and the band 311 at a local hotel. The episode was caught on the security video tape and Jonathan Jordan, director of hotel security, said the fight was "definitely started by 311." His debut solo album The Great Divide was released in the U.S. on November 22, 2005, peaking at #19 on Billboard's Top 200 chart. On February 10, 2006, Stapp married Miss New York USA 2004 winner Jaclyn Nesheiwat in Miami, Florida. This is his second marriage and her first. The day after his wedding Stapp was arrested at LAX for being drunk in public. He was booked and released on $250 bail. California pornography company Red Light District claims to have acquired a 1999 sex tape in which Stapp and rock artist Kid Rock engage in sex acts with four groupies. RLD planned to release the tape in 2006, however as of the present (02/22/06), Rock has admitted the tape is legitimate, and has filed a legal injunction to stop the video. Stapp, meanwhile, tried to avoid comment on it. "You think it's part of your rock 'n' roll memories," Stapp told CNN. "Somebody does not like you and somebody wants you to fail." Kid Rock mentioned in his lawsuit that the tape was to remain in the custody of Stapp, and was not for distribution. Despite the assertion he didn't release the tape, a Jane Doe who claims she appeared on the tape filed a lawsuit against Stapp and RLD on March 3 in Miami-Dade County, Florida, claiming invasion of privacy, use of her image without permission, and emotional distress, and asserts that Stapp leaked the tape himself to gain record sales for his struggling solo album.
