Born in 1982, Romola Garai was brought up in Hong Kong and Singapore until the age of ten, before returning to the UK to attend school. It was while she was studying for her A-levels that she got her first acting break. A casting agent scouting her school noticed her musical talents (she has a good soprano voice and plays the violin) and picked her to appear alongside Judi Dench in Gillies MacKinnon's Last Of The Blonde Bombshells, about an all-female swing band. She's probably best known in the UK for her part in BBC2's drama Attachments, in which she played naive work experience girl Zoe. After appearing in Tim Fywell's spirited coming-of-age drama I Capture The Castle, her star is set to rise even further with roles in Havana Nights, the follow-up to 80s cult classic Dirty Dancing, as well as Vanity Fair and Inside I'm Dancing.
