From a family of artists, Romain Duris fell into acting by chance. He was noticed by a casting director whilst waiting in a queue in 1993 and offered a part in the Cédric Klapisch film Le Péril jeune.[citation needed] False starts in art and music (he started an acid-jazz band at one stage) preceded his career as an actor.[citation needed] He has acquired a reputation for versatility.
