Robert Green (born January 18, 1980 in Chertsey, Surrey) is an English professional footballer who currently plays for Norwich City F.C. in the Football League Championship as a goalkeeper.
Green, mocked by some fans for his Worzel Gummidge-esque appearance, came through the youth ranks at Norwich and made his first team debut on 11 April 1999, keeping a clean sheet in the 0-0 local derby draw against Ipswich Town at Carrow Road. The departure of Andy Marshall in the summer of 2001 enabled Green to establish himself as first choice goalkeeper for the Canaries.
By 2003 Green became a key figure in the Norwich City side that won the First Division Championship in the 2003-04 season, he came in third in the supporters vote for player of the season behind Craig Fleming and Darren Huckerby.
His great form was also noticed by England coach Sven-Göran Eriksson, leading to a call-up to the national squad for the friendly against Sweden in March 2004. He won his first cap against Colombia in June 2005. Green remains in the England squad despite Norwich having been relegated to the Coca Cola Championship for season 2005/06.
