 Risteard Cooper Detailed Biography -

Risteárd Cooper is an Irish actor, comedian, mimic and writer, famous as one of the stars of Après Match. He also starred, alongside Hector Ó hEochagáin, in Chasing The Lions, a programme about the 2005 Lions tour of New Zealand and Chasing the Blues which followed Ireland's progress in the 2007 Rugby World Cup.

Cooper graduated from the Samuel Beckett Centre, Trinity College. He lived in New York for several years where he worked at the Ensemble Studio Theatre, the Irish Rep and Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company (founded by, amongst others, John Malkovich), playing Mickey in the American premiere of Jez Butterworth's award-winning play, Mojo. As an actor he has appeared many times at the Gate and Abbey Theatre in plays such as An Ideal Husband, See You Next Tuesday, Eccentricities of a Nightingale, Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme by Frank McGuinness, Betrayal by Harold Pinter and The Deep Blue Sea by Terence Rattigan. Other theatre work includes I, Keano at the Olympia Theatre.

A satirical programme written by Risteárd Cooper (along with Gerard Stembridge) called The State of Us was a four-part series focusing on the clash between politicians and the media. The programme began airing on RTÉ One on Sunday April 29, 2007.

Cooper recently started writing for the newspaper, The Irish Times.
