Worked as an apartment building manager prior to his success on "Home Improvement" (1991), and even maintained that job during the show's first season until he knew that Home Improvement would be successful. Is a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity from University of Washington His last name is omitted from his stage name because it was discovered that the Screen Actors Guild already had an actor by the name of Richard Wilson. His mother Louise was a painter; she died of bone marrow cancer in 1983. His father Gene is a retired building contractor. Attended Roosevelt High School in Seattle, Washington and was often a part of the drama program there. His son, Cooper, goes to Campbell Hall with Andy Garcia's children, Denzel Washington's daughter (Olivia), The Olsen Twins, and Andy Lawrence.

Richard Karn Detailed Biography -

Karn studied acting at the University of Washington, receiving a Masters degree from the school's Professional Actors Program. He then moved to New York City, performing Off-Broadway in The Foreigner, Me and My Girl, Losing It, and The Other Shore. He relocated to Los Angeles after appearing in such movies as Desperately Seeking Susan, and David Mamet's House of Games. While working in regional theatre, Karn happened to meet Matt Williams, who later created Home Improvement. Most recently, he has appeared in Pooch and the Pauper, Bram Stroker's The Mummy, Air Bud IV, That 70s Show, and the animated series, Disney's Recess. In his spare time, Karn runs the Richard Karn Celebrity Golf Classic in his hometown of Seattle. Each year, the event raises money for cancer research. Karn lives in Los Angeles and Seattle with his wife Tudi and son Cooper.
