David E. Kelley originally wanted him to play the role of Bobby Donnell on the TV show "The Practice" (1997) His father, Nicholas Platt, is an ex ambassador to Pakistan, Zambia, & the Phillipines. Is a distant cousin of Orson Welles. His mother, Sheila Maynard, is the granddaughter of Cynthia Burke Roche. Cynthia was the sister of Edmund Burke Roche who was the maternal grandfather of Diana, Princess of Wales. Was roommates with Hank Azaria at Tufts University and is the basis for his "Comic Book Guy" character on "The Simpsons." High school graduate from the Colorado Rocky Mountain School in Carbondale, Colorado (near Aspen). Oliver Platt Detailed Biography -

Oliver Platt, the son of a career diplomat, was born in Washington, D.C., and spent part of his childhood in Asia and the Middle East. He graduated from Tufts University with a degree in drama and immediately began working in regional theater as well as off-Broadway in such productions as The Tempest, Moon Over Miami, Sparks in the Park, and Urban Blight. He starred in the Lincoln Center production of Ubu and the Mike Nichols-produced Elliot Loves. For years audiences have enjoyed Platt in such films as Executive Decision, A Time to Kill, Indecent Proposal, Married to the Mob, Postcards from the Edge, Working Girls, Flatliners, Benny and Joon, Tall Tales, Adventures of Pecos Bill, Crusoe and The Three Musketeers. He also received a great deal of acclaim for his starring role in the dark comedy Funny Bones opposite Jerry Lewis and Lee Evans. Platt gave a critically acclaimed performance as Warren Beatty's political advisor in the controversial political drama Bulworth. Directly after that he starred as a villain in Eddie Murphy's hit comedy Dr. Doolittle. Platt also starred in Simon Birch and opposite Stanley Tucci in the Tucci-directed The Imposters with Isabella Rosellini, Lili Taylor and Steve Buscemi. Platt's other movie credits include Lake Placid, Three to Tango, Gun Shy opposite Liam Neeson and Sandra Bullock, and Bicentennial Man opposite Robin Williams. Platt starred in the action thriller Don't Say a Word opposite Michael Douglas. He also recently starred in Ash Wednesday, directed by Ed Burns. Platt received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his role on the hit show The West Wing. Away from the set, Platt enjoys spending time in New York with his wife and three children.
