Nina Hoss (* July 7, 1975 Stuttgart) is a German actress.
Nina Hoss comes from a liberal family. Her father Willi Hoss was German trade unionist and politician (member of the German Bundestag by The Greens). Her mother Heidemarie Rohweder was an actress on the Staatstheater Stuttgart and later director of the Württembergischen Landesbühne Esslingen.
In 2006 she starred the title character in the drama film Yella directed by Christian Petzold. For this role, Nina was awarded with the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the 2007 Berlin International Film Festival.
Nina Hoss supports the action Make Poverty History against female genital cutting and says: " For me, genital mutilation, torture, is one of the worst crimes in the name of the so-called honour on this earth. I dream that it will be possible that this form of domination over women be abandoned."
