Nicoletta Braschi (born August 10, 1960) is an Italian actress, best known for her work with her husband, actor and director Roberto Benigni. She has also collaborated with American director Jim Jarmusch. Braschi earned international acclaim for her role in Life Is Beautiful (La Vita è bella) (1997) as "Dora", and has also starred in the panned Pinocchio (2002) (as the "Blue Fairy"). American actress Glenn Close was the Blue Fairy's voice in its English version.
Born in Cesena, Braschi studied in Rome’s Accademia di Arte Drammatica and first worked with Benigni in 1983, in the comedy Tu Mi Turbi (“You Upset Me”), as “Madonna.” She starred in Jarmusch’s Down by Law and Mystery Train. In 1991, she starred as Maria in the Italian comedy Johnny Stecchino.
In 2002, she was a member of the jury at the Berlin Film Festival.
